Glasgow 2014 is delighted to announce additional services to enhance the spectator experience across a number of sports and venues. Sports fans will be able to listen to free, in-ear audio commentary from a public broadcast at selected events, using a dedicated FM radio frequency.
Those with access to their own small radio receiver or devices such as smartphones can plug in their earphones and listen to live commentary. Some venues will also allow audiences to listen to the International Broadcast commentary for the sport, while at outdoor venues they will be able to listen to standard sport commentary without having to be near the PA system.
This enhanced experience will be available for identified sports where commentary cannot be provided on the in-venue sound system (due to the need for silence during competition, for example), and also for specific outdoor events, such as the Marathon and Cycling road events and mountain biking.
The service is completely free; plus, spectators lining the route and attending free events starting and finishing at Glasgow Green dont even need a ticket.
The sports and venues that this new service applies to, with corresponding radio frequencies, are: Sport (discipline) Venue Frequency Dates Aquatics (Diving) Royal Commonwealth Pool, Edinburgh 106.7 Hz 30 Jul 2 Aug Athletics (Marathon) Glasgow Green and city course 107.9 Hz 27 Jul Badminton Emirates Arena 106.7 Hz Until 3 Aug Cycling (Mountain Bike) Cathkin Braes 107.9 Hz 29 Jul Cycling (Time Trial) Glasgow Green and throughout Glasgow, North Lanarkshire and East Dumbartonshire 107.9 Hz 31 Jul Cycling (Road Race) Glasgow Green 107.9 Hz 3 Aug Gymnastics (Artistic) SSE Hydro 89.0 Hz 28 Jul 1 Aug Gymnastics (Rhythmic) SSE Hydro 89.0 Hz Until 26 Jul Lawn Bowls Kelvingrove Lawn Bowls Centre 106.7 Hz Until 1 Aug Triathlon Strathclyde Country Park 107.9 Hz 26 Jul
