The now famous south side chaingang will be kicking off as of next tuesday evening, 27th March. Meet up time will be 6:30 for the first few weeks before moving back to 7pm once the days are longer. The meeting place is the Malletshaught Inn on the a77, just outside of Newton Mearns.

The same deal as the last few years applies. The ride from the Malletshaught to the end of the a77 is through and off, trying to keep the group together and ride a smooth effort and not going nuts. Once at the end of the A77 turn right towards Kilmaurs remaining at a constant effort for the group. After a few miles the group turns left towards Kilmarnock and left again towards Fenwick. Once in Fenwick turn left under the M77 and rejoin the A77 turning right. Once onto the A77 there is no emphasis on keeping the group together and you can ride as hard as you like and 'race' to the finish. The finish is at the big motorway sign on the left of the road, after the golf course and next to the M77 roundabout about 1 mile from the malletshaught. If there are big numbers we will split groups with the aim of having a handicapped group set off a couple of minutes behind the first group. We'll try to keep groups to less than 20.

All levels of riders aspiring to race are welcome to come, as well as others wishing to get faster on their bike. The route is relatively simple and safe, with very little traffic. A basic understand of bunch riding and through and off is essential and all riders ride at their own risk. This is not an organised training session, it is a group of like minded cyclists who wish to train in a group. All riders must be self sufficient. It would be great to see a lot of different clubs at the ride. Challenge tradition and come get fast together!

You know it Ronnie. I have a feeling it'll be even better this year. Can't wait to have a big group of riders out. Fingers crossed the sun will stay out too

Rabulous, what say you on getting this going on a Saturday morning too, similar to our friends in the East and their Saturday morning chainy.

The other Glasgow Saturday morning rides are too long, this would be perfect for racing-less weekends or when races are on the Sunday.

Aye? Naw?

Fenwick, the very mention of it sends my blood pH into my boots.

Would be up for Sat am session too, perhaps over the Stewarton climb for a wee change.

Rich

VC Glasgow South have been running a good 40 mile loop from the Mal on Saturdays.

Over to the Neilston Road, South to Dunlop then onto A736 down to the Stanecastle Roundabout. Back up Middleton Road to Cunninghamhead where you can either continue to Stewarton or take a Right through Kilmaurs & Fenwick. Back down the A77 for a sprint at the big sign or head over the Balageich and Bonnyton for some hill climbing practice.

Leave at 10 back just after 12.

Tailed off a bit now with folks racing from the club but might start up again if a wider group were interested

Saturday mornings may be good for doing the A77, kilmaurs, stewarton, lugton and barrhead. Finish back in Glasgow for a coffee?

Lets talk about it!

Big group out tonight, was very brisk!

Thinking next week that we'll split the groups up a little more, maybe 3 groups, and increase the size of the gaps. Maybe send the faster group off first, so any riders dropped can be swept up by the other groups.

Suggestions? Hope to see everyone out again next week.

Must have been about 20 in scratch group chasing about another 20 in smaller groups. Forgot to switch Garmin off so included drive home but reckon we did 22.5 miles in 51 mins or 26.5 mph

Hi Rab,

fast group out first is an interesting idea or could a slow group leaving 10mins(!) before the fast group work? so with a 1/3 to go at the end we could jump on the train :)

From my point of view, being the slowest and always doing atleast half the ride on my own, it would be great to have a slow(er) group on a tuesday that allows the main group to go and doesn't try to stay with the fast bunch, like last night. VC south seem well organised on a thursday with 3 groups but wheelers tuesday seems almost pointless for me although i really want to ride in a group and be pushed.

Hi Ross, sounds good, I have no idea what happens on a Thursday and didn't even know there was a ride out.

Just to clarify the ref of Wheelers Tuesday, its not a ride set up by an specific club. It's a group of people who get together and ride together. There is not specific body responsible for anything, individuals are responsible.
