'sports tourism' is reserved for the selectors, governing bodies, sportscotland, politicians, civil servants etc...

Why is it a pity?
I thought it was obvious... Clearly not...:(
It doesn't even rank on the selection criteria... :( even as point 5)

here are the selection criteria for GB Cycling Team:
An athletes current and recent UCI World Ranking. International race performances in the period January 1 st 2011 up to the 27 th May 2012 Training performances in the period January 1 st 2012 up to selection date. Specific nature of the London Games courses (road race, road time trial, MTB and BMX). The profile of athletes already selected to ensure optimal team composition. Young exceptional athletes who will benefit from an Olympic experience and are considered to be competitive in 2012 and medal prospects for 2016. To be eligible for selection for a team event (Team Pursuit, Team Sprint) a rider must demonstrate commitment to, and co-operate in, planned team training sessions.
No mention of the CTT champion there either. Obviously these governing bodies have got it wrong and should be listening to you guys. |

There's a bit of a difference between selecting for the Olympic Games/World Champs and the Commie Games though isn't there? In the Olympic Games you're riding against all of the world's best time triallists whereas in the Commie Games there's everyone from some of the world's best to some dude on a bamboo road bike with a set of clip-on tri bars whose bike had just arrived that day and had until then been training on a full susser from the local supermarket.
Having said that I can see the reasoning but agree it's a it of a pity. |

in fact, even more so, in effect there is no reason for any comparison with a GB performances which for Commie Games purposes doesn't exist. The standard of competition in England through the Sky boys etc means that you do actually need to be one of the worlds best to hit that criteria....
perhaps the comparison should be with Wales and NI.....why one of the strongest nations, if not the strongest nation?
the friendly games???
