Does anybody have any details on the time trial or the road race to be held in Glasgow in June? I can't find any details on the BC website

Hi Claire,

The only info I've seen was this news item posted on BC's website in January - http://www.britishcycling.org.uk/road/article/roa20130121-British-Cycling-Announces-Host-City-for-National-Road-Race-Championships-0

(There was also a bit of discussion on Braveheart with a lot of posters asking why the RR route didn't take in all the major climbs in Scotland and Rab Wardell pointing out that you could still stage a great race within the confines of Glasgow which would provide a challenge to competitors and superb viewing for spectators - http://www.braveheartfund.co.uk/Community/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=11654&whichpage=1&SearchTerms=commonwealth%2Crr

Best of luck with your racing!

Not sure if it is public - or 'early visibility' via Glasgow Life. Either way, it's in the public domain.

Wasn't obvious to me where to click through to the maps of the RR and TT.

Stewarton? What a bizarre choice of TT location.

Website could do with an update. Also shows a picture of a retired female as if she might be taking part.

Yes- the links for the course maps don't work yet. When will it go live on the BC website for entries?

Details...

Road race course looks a bit easy. University avenue and Great George Street 13 times will be a walk in the park...

its still a crit, or kermesse in the Belgian stylee, though...a road race allows periods of calm reflection , intense action and the general positioning of bunch racing on the open road. This will require the skills of the crit rider with continual accelerations in and out of corners and being ever vigilant at the head of the bunch...which will disrupt breaks and chases....

Its certainly an interesting race...just not sure its road race

as a country we may not yet be (cycling wise) mature enough to have a 'proper' road race and hence need to bring the race to the people...hopefully this will be but a staging post on the way there......

If the top guys ride (Wiggins, Cav, Trott, Armistead) and it's sunny the crowds on Great George St will look like the Muur.

I reckon it'll be in smithereens from early on.

Can't wait!

not sure any tour guys will ride...looks like a lottery type course and maybe not the best prep for Le Tour (for sky and any others riding that is).....

Hopefully we'll get wiggins as that would put bums on seats...

I count 33 corners (inc a couple of U bends) in the RR circuit. 11 laps - 363 bends on the course! This will be an absolute lottery.

To think of what is available within 25 miles of George Square, I think this is a squandered chance for a fantastic circuit.

Have only looked at the map on the video, but are they riding up the pedestrianised Buchanan St? Good luck if it's wet as the slate surface is like an ice rink when even damp. The alternative is Hope St - which is very badly polluted.

There have been quite a few, not in Scotland admittedly. Its 180km's so it won't be anything like a crit. The last hour might be like a crit, or on the other hand, like the last hour of a road race. The course has a climb every k, some of which are over 10% for 200m, not exactly the kind of thing a 'crit specialist' is going to revel in and something you can race full gas from the front.

Surely this course will find a rider who will have to be able to handle his bike well, sprint, climb, hold bunch position and race tactically. Isn't this what road racing is all about?

Also has opinion gone from 'holding the road race in the city centre is too easy' to thinking it's going to be too hard with too many corners and climbs and slippy road surfaces?

that will explain all the manholes along Woodlands road, Gibson St, Great George St and Byres Road being yellow spray painted for repairs a couple of days ago in advance of this...

Belgian road champs 2012 - 17 laps of 14kms. If only there were lucky enough to have the race in the centre of their biggest city. Tom Boonen won, bet he can ride a decent crit.

I think it'll be amazing, how can you honestly be moaning about having the british champs on our doorstep??

It would've been a wasted opportunity taking it out of the city
