Nick started cycling with Carnoustie Cycling Club and was a member for several years. He was competitive and improving his times and achieved club champion in 19??
Nick was 65 tall and took a great pride in having a customised Dave Marsh cycle made for him.
In May 1993 several of the Carnoustie members along with Nick went to Majorca on a training holiday. Several days into the training the group found themselves many miles from their hotel caught in a horrendous storm. Returning through the rain they stopped at a building site and got plastic bags which they adapted and wore for the rest of the journey to the hotel.
Nick didnt drink and retired early to his room he shared with room mate Pete Arnott. Nick died during the night in his sleep of sudden death syndrome (a disturbance to the electrical rhythm of the heart). He was 23 years.
Nick enjoyed meeting people and had many friends and acquaintances which he met through cycling.
Though the race day in Nicks memory is very emotional we are extremely proud, honoured and thankful, first to Carnoustie Cycling Club and latterly to Angus Bike Chain for staging and growing the event.
