One of cycling's best kept secrets of star racing cyclist Stevie Blom was his heroic swim into the the River Gryffe and the saving of the baby seal a 6 month old fluffy a toddler seal, near to drowning.
It was just before a West Ferry 10 mile time trial. A Hugh Grant baldy look alike and still wearing his Glasgow Couriers colourful cycling strip he belly flopped into the waves and brought Sammy the seal to the safety of the river bank near Linwood Moss.
After performing mouth to mouth resuscitation this cycling hero returned the now smiling seal to the waves where he, the seal was greeted by his waiting mother. "GOD BLESS YOU BLOMZIE!" she barked with tears of gratitude rolling freely down her cheeks.
Already Blomzie was well down the road to his seeded position in the cycle event. It was unfortunate for Blomzie for he managed only a 20.50 on that particular morning. One might wonder the logic of King Kenny in the Johnstone Wheelers for transferring this obvious champion for 3.76 and 3 long inside tubes, unpunctured!
Blomzie is now a major event organiser in the new, brand new CTT
