Andrew Smith:
As most of you will know by now Mum died on 29th December after suffering heart failure. She had been coping with the increasing effects of secondary lung cancer for over 2 years as well as dealing with the after effects of treatment for oral cancer in 2012. Despite this she carried on doing the things she loved until almost the last days of her life. In fact the homemade Christmas cake and pudding arrived after I returned to Sheffield with a card saying she had run out of time to finish the icing. She was determined to stay in her flat and did so until the day before she passed away.

Her funeral will be on 15th January at 11:00 am in the West Chapel at Hazlehead Crematorium followed by a burial at 11:45 at Hazlehead then a reception at the Hazlehead Park caf. There is a lot of sadness with her passing but we want to make the day a celebration of a life fully lived. All her friends, family, colleagues and competitors are invited. I know she would be expecting me to go to her funeral wearing one of her hand knitted jumpers so the suit is staying in Sheffield. Come in whatever makes you feel comfortable whether it is a suit, lycra or anything in between.

If any of her friends who I dont see before the funeral want to contribute anything for inclusion in the remembrance please call or e-mail me as I cant see you all when I'm in Aberdeen next week. You can reply here and I'll Facebook message with my email address and or mobile. Also if anyone has any photos of mum could you mail them to me and Ill print and include in a photo gallery at the reception. I've included a couple separated by a fair few years.

It was Mums wish to be buried and as she spent her life knitting and crafting we have got her a hand woven willow coffin, the nearest we could get to a knitted one. The undertakers have advised me that we need 8 people to lower her down. They can provide people but it would be nice if some of her fitter and stronger friends could help me lower mum to her final resting place. Please message or contact me if you are able to do this then Ill know if I need to arrange anything with the undertakers.

Thank you for the calls and cards. They are much appreciated at this time
