Lots has changed since I wrote my last blog, I’ve been based down in Crawley for the past 4 weeks now staying with my coach and getting in some good quality training and racing. This has been really good and I’ve seen a difference in my racing already, at the London Nocturne and Woking Tour Series I was up the front all race and finished just outside the top 10, I’ve not quite got the speed to finish it off yet but I’m sure that’ll come.
I can’t mention the Tour Series without writing about the Edinburgh round, being held in my home city I felt a fair amount of pressure going into it. There was so many people there I knew and with such a demanding course with the cobbled climb it was going to be a hard race! I think I was really inspired by this though and the number of people shouting my name really got me going, I actually really enjoyed the cobbles and came away with a decent result of 13th. I think everyone agreed it was the best atmosphere of the series so hopefully we’ll be back racing there next year!
I’ve been glad to see my race legs coming back recently and been feeling stronger in races, notably Surf n Turf where the team raced really well together and although I didn’t come away with a result I was still happy with how I rode and how my legs were feeling. A few weeks ago I headed to Belgium for my first race there and my first senior race abroad. It was a daunting experience and I was extremely nervous. The course was a plan flat 4km circuit with a 400m cobbled section which we raced 25 laps of. I really hard no idea how I would get on in the race and it was one of the hardest races I’ve done so I was really happy to finish in the bunch in 43rd place.
I’ve just finished a big block of training I’ve been doing and am hoping to come into form in the next few weeks for some events I’ve been targeting. In the second half of the season I’m hopeful of heading to Belgium again and getting some better results in crits in the UK.
